Protect your crops from frost with our solution
PREPARE YOUR CROPS BY SHIELDING THEM FROM SPRING FROSTS
With the arrival of spring, fruit growers gear up to start their operations, aware of the challenges posed by spring frosts. The key to protecting your crops? The right action and knowledge!
Having active protection systems is vital, and among them, sprinkler systems are the most effective. It's important to note that merely having these systems is not enough; knowing how to use them correctly is fundamental.
AUTOMATION FOR EFFECTIVE PROTECTION
Various frost monitoring systems are available in the market, incorporating the use of sensors and data querying platforms, but very few can act on the irrigation system itself in an automated way. This implies that the initiation of the system rests on the farmer or operation operator. While starting the system (and subsequently stopping it) is a crucial action for the operation, automating this process is interesting to minimize the risk of frost damage.
At Sistemes Electrònics Progrés, we have been working in recent years on solutions for agricultural operations related to water usage, and frost protection systems have not been overlooked. Our solution can directly act on the programmer based on conditions established by the user.
TOTAL CONTROL IN YOUR HAND
The user can check sensor data at any time, either through the VEGGA platform or the Agrónic APP.
The use of the APP is very helpful in these situations since, apart from being able to quickly and easily check the data, the user receives alerts and alarms to warn of the risk of frost or the initiation of the system.
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY ACTIVATE YOUR FROST PROTECTION SYSTEM
When it comes to protecting your crops from frost, the activation of your protection system is crucial. A smart way to do this is by monitoring the wet bulb temperature (Tw), this parameter indicates the lowest temperature the plant tissue can reach. The golden rule? Activate your sprinklers when the wet bulb temperature exceeds the critical crop temperature (Tc).
However, starting the system at 0 °C can be even safer, especially if there are no issues with water or waterlogging, and particularly if your plants are young and vulnerable to the weight of ice.

LESSONS FROM THE PAST FOR A SAFER FUTURE
Let's learn from past mistakes. According to a study by IRTA (Faro and Peris, 2022), one of the main errors during the historical frost of 2022 was not activating protection systems with sufficient anticipation, mainly due to the lack of use of wet bulb temperature monitoring systems. Let's not repeat the same mistakes.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Since 2024, we offer state-of-the-art sensors that keep you informed about ambient temperature (T), relative humidity (HR), and wet bulb temperature (Tw). By connecting these sensors to the programmer or AgroBee-L module, we ensure continuous and effective protection. We present you with the most comprehensive options to keep your crops safe at all times!
